MountainZone.com:
Well, Everest must have been a great thrill for you.

Weihenmayer:
It was. I had a wonderful team. I had 13, well, with me, we had 13 Westerners and we had eight high-altitude Sherpas and, all in all, you know, we got 19 of us to the summit, which actually I think is still a standing record: the most people from one team to get to the top in a single day. So we had more than just one record broken that day.

MountainZone.com:
Well, here's a question along those same lines, Erik. We got email here from a woman named Amanda, who asks: Are you ever shocked at everything that you've accomplished, despite the fact that you're a sightless individual? And then she follows up by saying: Do you ever think you will reach your limit?

Weihenmayer:
(Chuckles) Yeah, I always wonder where the limits are. You know, I want to find them someday, hopefully. But right now I haven't found them quite yet. And I am shocked sometimes when I think back at all I've been able to do. I think "Was that me that was able to do that?" I mean that seems like some kind of superhuman feat, but maybe in moments, when we need to, as human beings, we're able to rise to the occasion, and then later, when we're just kind of hanging out on our couch, and playing with our kids, we're thinking "Ok, I'm back to being a mortal again." But, yeah, from time to time in the mountains you really have to rise way above yourself, and not just look out for yourself, but for your team members as well. So, yeah, I am shocked sometimes when I look back.
