On an expedition in 1992 in which Anderson climbed new routes on Vinson, a second party climbing in the area at the same time included Jay Smith, Conrad Anker, Paul Tetem, Steve Plumb and Clive Duval. Here, Anker in the lead, with Teten, Plumb and Duval, heading up the glacier for the first ascent of a new route on Mt Vinson. The rocky ridge in the far distance is the area that Anderson and his team will be climbing in this year.
