Lukla Airport

As the trip winds down, Jim Williams checks in from Lukla Airport, where the team is waiting to board a plane to Kathmandu.

One More Good Walk

Like the traders from Tibet, everyone is leaving Namche for the winter. Sixteen yak-loads of gear has been transferred to porters, and the team is making its way down to Lukla, where it will catch a flight on to Kathmandu.

Pangboche Party

The team packed out from Base Camp to Pangboche, whereupon a good time was had by all. Jim Williams provides the details.

Time To Pack Up And Head Out

Jim Williams provides details of summit day, and says that the team is happy to be heading down from Base Camp, as the weather is changing: "We look north at Tibet, there's these big clouds roaring across Cho Oyu to Everest. Big lenticulars that just link the two together."

Safely Back At Base Camp

The team sounds tired, but is back safely in Base Camp, getting some good food and rest. Jim Williams provides the details.

First Team Summits!

Team 1--Dave Morton, Randy Luskey, Chris Nichols and Nimatashi Sherpa--has summitted Ama Dablam today and are headed back to spend the night at Camp III.

Summit Attempt Underway

The first of two groups to head for the summit has left Camp III and the second group will move to Camp III today. Conditions are generally good, with light winds, but very cold temperatures. More dispatches are expected throughout today and tomorrow.

Live At Base Camp: Don!

"Don Morgan is going to head down to Base Camp. He is feeling as though he's had as much of the climbing as he wants to have right now, but he's not giving up on the expedition. So he is going to become the MountainZone correspondent."

"Yesterday, the whole group went to at least as far as the base of the Yellow Tower, with three members, Dave Morton, Randy Luskey and Scott Hoesler making it to the top of the Yellow Tower to deposit their gear...We had spectacular weather, very little wind, temperatures are nice. I'm sitting here barefooted, out in the sun at Camp I..."

At Camp I, Ready To Climb Higher

"We, (are) watching some French climbers descend from the summit. They went all the way up from Camp I today. And there are a couple of other groups up here, a Japanese group and an English group. Our team's all feeling great...Tomorrow we're going to climb the Yellow Tower, and everybody's excited about that..."

Thanksgiving Greetings from Base Camp

Hiking to Yak Camp

Everyone has packed up their gear and we're sending it by Yak to Yak camp and from there it'll go to camp one and we'll start building camp one tomorrow.

Heading to Base Camp

Jim Williams reports in that the team is officially making the move to Base Camp, where they'll spend the next 3 nights. Days will be spent starting to carry loads up the mountain.

Warm Day in Pangboche

After receiving a blessing from the Lama at Thyangboche, the team moved on to Pangboche for the night, and today will day hike to Base Camp in beautiful, 55 degree weather.

Stocking Up, and Off to Pangboche

The team made one last stop at the Saturday market in Namche before heading off to Pangboche, a village at the base of Ama Dablam.

Last Day In Namche

One last easy day before the trek tomorrow to Panboche and then on to Base Camp. One thing is for sure: the team is eating well.

On A Clear Day

The team had a view to remember, reports Jim Williams: "We can see Everest, we can see Lhotse and Ama Dablam clearly without a cloud in the sky...only a slight breath of wind." Plus, a first-ever satellite phone conversation for the team's liaison officer.

Arrival At Namche Bazaar
