Katie Brown and Chris Sharma Clean House
07 FEB 2000

Top climbers from around the country, including Chris Sharma, Tommy Caldwell, Katie Brown and Jason and Tiffany Campbell recently competed in the Wasatch Open Bouldering Competition at the Wasatch Front Rock Gym. Fueling the competitiveness, these rock climbing superstars were vying for a $5000 purse to be split among the top five climbers in the men's and women's divisions.

The top 10 qualifiers from each division moved on to the finals, which consisted of four extremely intense bouldering routes. Each competitor had five minutes to attempt each problem with a five-minute rest between routes.

Chris Sharma took an impressive 1st place win and $1000 in the men's division. Local boulder meister Steven Jeffery tied with Jason Kehl for second place and $600. Ukrainian emigré and New York City resident Vadim Vinokur captured 3rd and $400.

Katie Brown stole the show in the women's division, taking the $1000. Tiffany Campbell, fresh off her redpoint of Hell Goes To Frogtown (5.13d) at the Virgin River Gorge, took second place and 600 bucks in grocery money. Third place and $400 went to Lisa Rands.
